Rent increases

California and some cities limit rent increases, set notice periods and exempt some homes. The statewide summary of the rules (Civil Code 827 and 1947.12), with the date it was last checked, is on the Rules page (/console/rules) and in the Notices checks. Sproutly does not state city rules and does not decide whether your home is covered.

You check the rules for your home at the official source (the Where to check links on the rent increase page, and the city agency links on the rent control pages), then enter the cap, the notice period in days and which exemption notice applies. Sproutly calculates the new rent from your numbers, drafts the notice for your review and tracks the date.

Sproutly is software, not a law firm. For your situation, talk to a California attorney or your local housing office.
