Help / Applications and screening

Screening applicants without a connected bureau

Sproutly does not run credit reports for you. You have two ways to screen an applicant.

First, the applicant can upload a reusable tenant screening report. Rules about reusable reports and screening fees are in Civil Code 1950.6. Check that section at the official source and decide how to handle a report and any fee.

Second, you can run screening with a service you choose and record the result on the application. Open the application and use the Record a screening result form.

If you decline an applicant or set different terms because of something in a report, federal and California law can require an adverse-action notice (15 U.S.C. 1681m; Civ. Code 1785.20). When you deny, the Decision card on the application drafts a notice from the details you enter, and it waits under Legal, then Notices. You decide whether to send it. Sproutly does not rank, score or recommend applicants.

  1. Open Properties, then Applications and choose the application.
  2. Review the uploaded report, or use Record a screening result for the service you used.
  3. Choose a decision in the Decision card.
  4. If the decision rests on a report, review the adverse-action notice the form produces and send it if it applies.
